Running a School

March 8th, 2010

Anyone who thinks they know how to run a school put your hand up? Ok, I see lots of hands. Let me rephrase the question. Anyone who would like the responsibility of running a school put your hands up? OK less hands now. See running a school is very hard work. Just take a look at Tavistock College. Now that school had everything going for it. A recognised sports college, language college and many students from decent backgrounds yet it  was mortgaged up to the eyeballs and it seemed that the best laid plans had a reverse and were gang aglay. Oh well, it happens but now the OFSTED are sniffing round causing insecurity, instability and making it worse – leading to an emergency cover plan.

Sponsorship and Sports Days

March 4th, 2010

If you’re looking for a way to raise some funding for your local school, why not think about the classics. You know, the long forgotten activities that used to occur on the green, green field of the school or parish hall on a Sunday so bright it must have been the 50’s.

So what were these activities then?

  • Egg and Spoon Race
  • Sack Race
  • Three-Legged Race
  • Hurdles
  • Frisbee
  • Stuck – In – The – Mud

All of these games can be played to great success and while it is only the races that can really be sponsored, one cute alternative idea is to sponsor entry to the day instead of the individual races. Failing the availability of gates or ringfences, you can always hold a sponsored cutest kid competition and use the winner to go around collecting subs for the day.
